Biomolecular Minerals and Volcanic Glass Bio-Mimics to Control Adult Sand Flies, the Vector of Human Leishmania Protozoan Parasites

چکیده

Sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) serve as vectors for transmitting protozoan parasites, Leishmania spp., that cause the disease called leishmaniasis. The main approach to controlling sand is use of chemical insecticides. discovery alternative methods their control needed because potential health risks insecticides and development fly resistance these pesticides. biomineral produced by diatoms (diatomaceous earth, DE; Celite) a volcanic glass bio-mimic (Imergard) have been shown our group be efficacious against mosquitoes, filth flies, ticks but never studied flies. In modified World Health Organization cone test, 50% adult Phlebotomus papatasi at 29 ± 1 °C, 55 5% RH, 12:12 LD, when exposed Imergard Celite, were dead in 13.08 7.57 h, respectively. Proof concept was established biominerals leishmaniasis control. Using light source an attractant minerals had no significant effect on LT50, time mortality. Minerals in Volcanic Ash 1: Primary Minerals and Volcanic Glass

Volcanic ash is fragments of magma, and consists of minerals and volcanic glass. These materials in the ash can provide important information on the nature of the magma, because chemical compositions of magma usually show distinct features in each volcano, and because assemblages and compositions of minerals reflect their host melt. Using assemblages and chemical compositions of minerals and gl...

detection and identification of leishmania parasites within sand flies using kdna, rdna and cpb loci

objective: molecular epidemiology of visceral leishmaniasis (vl) is currently used widely for different objectives such as vector incrimination studies. materials and methods: in this study three different loci including kinetoplast dna (kdna), ribosomal dna (rdna), and cystein protease b (cpb) of leishmania parasite genome were used for detection and identification of natural infection of san...

BluePort: A Platform to Study the Eosinophilic Response of Mice to the Bite of a Vector of Leishmania Parasites, Lutzomyia longipalpis Sand Flies

BACKGROUND Visceral Leishmaniasis is a serious human disease transmitted, in the New World, by Lutzomyia longipalpis sand flies. Natural resistance to Leishmania transmission in residents of endemic areas has been attributed to the acquisition of immunity to sand fly salivary proteins. One theoretical way to accelerate the acquisition of this immunity is to increase the density of antigen-prese...

First Human Cases of Leishmania (Viannia) lainsoni Infection and a Search for the Vector Sand Flies in Ecuador

An epidemiological study of leishmaniasis was performed in Amazonian areas of Ecuador since little information on the prevalent Leishmania and sand fly species responsible for the transmission is available. Of 33 clinical specimens from patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), causative parasites were identified in 25 samples based on cytochrome b gene analysis. As reported previously, Leish...

Leishmania Development in Sand Flies and Main Aspects of This Parasite-vector Interaction

Leishmaniases are important vector-borne disease with a wide range of clinical symptoms in humans and domestic animals. Leishmania species infecting humans are transmitted by phlebotomine sand flies belonging to genera Phlebotomus and Lutzomyia. Here we summarize main aspects of Leishmania development in sand flies. In the vector, Leishmania development is confined to the digestive tract, mainl...
